Here are some examples of early motorhomes we like. Its interesting how man & womans' desire to get away from having to be under canvas has developed.

Love the progression from bikes to old van conversions, plus the upgrades to some of the more expensive variety of vehicle.

Do you have any old examples you would like to share. Then post your comments and links below, let us all have a look. Maybe here at Motorhome-travels we will choose the best / most amusing and give it an award.

Whilst at the recent "small business sunday" #sbs awards event hosted by BBC's Dragons Den stalwart Theo Paphitis because Annie's biz had won back in June 2011 we came across Loving Outdoors who had also been commended by Theo plus tales of their interesting GUV van. Here's an extract from them

" Award winning online outdoor retailer Loving Outdoors are heading to the hills and beyond in their distinctive new motor home. Clad in Astroturf, ‘The GUV’ or ‘Grassed Up Van’ as fans have dubbed it, will take the Loving Outdoors team to outdoor events, festivals and popular walking routes across the country where they’ll be on hand with expert outdoor advice, drinks and snacks, fun activities and plenty of chat."

So why not find out more about it and where you can see it. Nice people *smile*

What do you think of it? as a concept? and as a talking point? Have your say here, just leave a coment to get the discussion flowing. I'm sure many folk will have views. We certainly lean towards the 'green' as they say.

PS We've included an alternative pic of a 'green' van , lol!

Barrie & Mick at Regal Furnishings are lovely guys and make you feel welcome and extra proud of your motorhome / rv. They love it when folk see their updated & refreshed vans for the first time and go WOW!

People travel to them from all over Europe and it generally just takes a day. You can leave it with them and then come back to a great surprise.

A motorhome is a type of self-propelled recreational vehicle or RV which offers living accommodation combined with a vehicle engine. The term motorhome is most commonly used in the UK, United States, Canada,Australia & NZ. They are used for motorhome-travels.

Features

A motorhome comprises sleeping accommodation for between 2 and 8 people. Each sleeping place is called a berth. Each berth is either fixed or converts from another part of the motorhome's interior. A kitchenette area will contain cooking equipment. The type of equipment included differs depending on the motorhome make and model, but generally a kitchenette has an oven, grill, hob and sink. More luxury models may also provide a microwave. A separate washroom will be housed in the motorhome. Each washroom will have a flushing cassette toilet, shower and basin. The cassette toilet sometimes swivels to provide extra room and can be accessed from outside the motorhome for easy emptying. More recent motorhomes will have a separate shower cubicle.

A motorhome will also have a cab area with a driver and passenger seat. These seats often swivel to become part of the living space. A dinette area provides a table and seating space typically used for eating meals. A lounge may also be included, consisting of either a u-shaped sofa located in the rear of the motorhome or a side lounge.

Ambiguity with RV and campervan

Motorhomes can be easily confused with American RVs and campervans. Their term Recreational Vehicle also refers to trailers and other types of leisure vehicle which can be towed or driven.

Campervans are typically smaller than motorhomes and are constructed differently. Whilst campervans are focussed with mobility and low cost, motorhomes have more emphasis on comfort. For example, campervans generally lack built-in toilets and showers, or a divide between the living compartment and the cab. Volkswagen Westfalia Campers are typical campervans.

The Snakeliner Presidents Suite could well be that.

It has 969 sq ft (90m²) of living space, plus "The President-Suite", which we’re assuming should be the Presidential Suite but is a victim of poor translation, it is german, measures 18m (59 ft) long and 2.5m (8.2 ft) wide - not including the driver’s cabin. But if that wasn’t big enough, both sides can be extended outward a further 1.125m (3.7ft) to make it 5m (16.4 ft) wide when fully set up.

Enormous but could you drive it? even with your long distance lorry drivers license our guess is maybe!

If you want to see it in more detail read the full article, it was on display at the Dusseldorf show recently.

This one is not quite as expensive as the worlds most expensive Motorhome but its getting there.

Why not take a look in more detail at the Futuria (<-just click here).

Here's the SUMMARY just in case

If you like to travel in style, then the Futuria luxury motorhome is for you! The latest in highest quality motorhomes is Futuria’s "Sports and Spa" caravan, which was recently unveiled at the Caravan Salon 2010 in Dusseldorf, Germany. This mansion on wheels contains everything for luxury travelling: bathroom, bedroom, roof terrace with Jacuzzi and even sports car garage.

Not only does it feature a Jacuzzi on the roof, but also a 36ft terrace leading to it - lots of room to set up the tables and chairs and a barbecue then!

The 49ft-long, 6.5-ton vehicle has a built-in electrical generator meaning you don't have to stop your partying whilst on the move.

Inside it has a full-sized living room and bed area, as well as a 'kitchenette' . Outside you'll find the reason for the 'sports' moniker, a garage which you can access from the side, or rear, perfect for parking your latest Lamborghini or Ferrari. The Futuria only has a top speed of 55 mph, so if you are in a hurry, you may wish to let down the ramps and let your supercar out to drive to your destination separately.

And it's a bargain, with many other additional features, this luxurious motor caravan will only cost you $840,000 ( around £550,000 )

And just think about it, as they say "you wouldn't get much change from your house, if ANY, for this one"

This is currently the worlds most expensive motorhome at £1.9m (2012) over £2M by 2016. We have been looking to buy for almost 2 years but I must confess we didn't even look at this one. Couldn't find the right butler ;) Enjoy
